Ontario fuels-contractor service-vehicle identification

For gaseous-fuels contractors, O. Reg. 212/01, s. 21(7) requires field vehicles other than delivery trucks to be clearly marked with the contractor's name and registration number. O. Reg. 217/01, s. 7(2) requires vehicles operated by a registered liquid-fuels contractor to be clearly marked with the name and registration number recorded on the registration certificate.

TSSA's contractor-audit guidance states that there is no specific sign format or statutory minimum character size beyond clear visibility. It notes that approximately 1.5-inch lettering has generally been accepted, but this product does not present that guidance as a legal minimum. Delivery trucks are exempt under the gaseous-fuels subsection; buyers must confirm which regulation and vehicle use applies.

Buyer checks before production

Copy the registered contractor name and registration number exactly from the current certificate. Confirm the vehicle class, surface contrast and clear visibility. The sample business and number in product media are fictional. This physical lettering does not register a contractor or establish compliance.

Measure and install

Measure each flat usable door or body panel before selecting a vehicle type. Leave handles, hinges, seams, mouldings, badges, windows and damaged surfaces outside the measured area. Clean the application area with a residue-free method suitable for the vehicle finish, position the taped lettering while the panel is dry, and use the supplied squeegee from the centre outward. Review the completed placement from normal viewing distance before removing the final alignment reference.

• Use the registered name exactly as recorded on the current contractor certificate, not a shortened trading name unless it is the recorded name.
• Confirm whether the vehicle is a field vehicle, delivery-only vehicle or a vehicle governed by the liquid-fuels requirement.
• Choose a lettering and surface combination that stays clearly visible, then approve every character on the proof before production.
