Dangerous Goods Placards Canada supplies a buyer-selected class placard face for a large means of containment. Start with the class or division in your current classification, shipping document, safety data sheet or other controlled transport record. This product does not classify dangerous goods, assign a UN number or decide whether an exemption applies.

Start with the correct TDG marking workflow

Transport Canada generally describes labels for small means of containment with a capacity of 450 L or less and placards for large means of containment with a capacity greater than 450 L. This listing is for a large-means placard, not a small-means label or a WHMIS workplace label.

Choose the class family from your controlled information

The current product selector offers nine broad class-family choices, Class 1 through Class 9. Several families have division- or compatibility-group-specific faces in the Part 4 Appendix. A broad class selection does not mean that one generic face covers every division. Confirm the exact applicable face before production; we do not infer it from a common product name.

What Part 4 says about a standard placard

• Display the placard as a square on a point.
• Use sides at least 250 mm long in the standard format.
• Except for the DANGER placard, keep the internal line 12.5 mm from the edge.
• Keep the required mark visible, legible and against a contrasting background.
• Use durable, weather-resistant construction suited to the actual conditions of exposure.

A smaller placard is not a routine compact option. Except for Class 7, section 4.7 permits reduction only when the normal placard cannot be displayed because of the irregular shape or size of the large means of containment, and the required content must remain proportional.

Who confirms and displays the marks

Section 4.4 assigns consignor responsibilities for displaying or ensuring display and providing required marks in the circumstances it describes. Section 4.5 gives the carrier separate display, maintenance, change and removal responsibilities. Ordering a printed placard does not transfer those decisions to the sign seller.

Before ordering

1. Confirm that the item is for a large means of containment and requires a placard rather than a label.
2. Read the exact primary class, division and any subsidiary class from current controlled transport information.
3. Select the matching Class 1 through Class 9 family in the live product options.
4. Confirm the exact current Part 4 face, required quantity and display plan before production.

UN numbers and DANGER placards are separate decisions

This listing does not include a custom UN number. A UN number on a large means is required only in the circumstances set out in section 4.15.2. When the confirmed display plan requires an orange panel, use the separate UN Number Panels product and enter the number from the current controlled transport record.

The DANGER placard is optional and conditional under section 4.16. It is not a universal substitute for class placards, and the live Class 1 through Class 9 selector does not decide eligibility.
